Educator of the Year nomination
I nominate Mrs. Smith for Educator of the Year. Mrs. Smith was my sixth grade math teacher and field hockey coach throughout my middle school experience at Brandywine Springs. Before I had even met her, I had heard so many great things about her. For example, the way she teaches and coaches are way above average. She uses methods that make everything more fun. She is an amazing role model to all her students and even the younger students as well. Not only is she a great role model and leader, but she is also always determined to make all of her students the best versions of themselves that they can be. While in the process of teaching or coaching her students, Mrs. Smith always tries to incorporate fun methods into lessons or drills. I was never bored in her class or out on the field. In class she would always try to associate games or fun problems with her lessons. She would have the students do something with finding the height of each other or something else to get to know your classmates better. We also got to know a lot about Mrs. Smith as well. We would learn things like her likes and dislikes while we were learning each unit. When we were out on the field, we would play certain games to get extra practice with specific skills and plays. Each game we played helped us learn something new or just continue to get better in that general area. Keeping everything more fun and active helped everyone maintain good grades and improve while playing field hockey. Mrs. Smith is also an excellent role model and leader to all. She always does her absolute best to teach and coach her students as well as she can. She is easygoing and very easy to talk to. She helps anyone who is in need of it. She is very optimistic, and she looks at the positive side of things. If you were to do poorly on something, she looks at it as an opportunity to learn from it. She is also very proactive and determined. Mrs. Smith gets done what needs to get done. Not only is she really hard working, but she is also extremely caring and kind. You can talk to her about anything, from school related topics to more personal topics. Many other students, as well as me, look up to her. Although Mrs. Smith tries to make everything fun, she is still very determined to make everyone the best versions of themselves that they can be. Even when I moved up to seventh and eighth grade, I would still ask her for help when I didn’t understand something. As said earlier, she is very easy to talk to, so when you need help, she is always there, and she encourages you to do your absolute best. One of the things she does not accept is when someone says I don’t know. She has a sign at the front of the classroom that says it’s unacceptable. That is one of the things I remember most from when I was in middle school. When someone says they don’t know, she helps them through it instead of just excusing them and asking someone else. That way the student can benefit and learn from it rather than just sitting there and not understanding. She encourages people just as much on the field as in the classroom. She pushes everyone and makes sure they are doing everything correctly. Otherwise, she will help them by correcting what they are doing wrong. She has confidence and faith in each and every one of us. Mrs. Smith is one of my favorite teachers and coaches. She has made a huge impact on my life, and I am very grateful. She prepared me for the future, and she will continue to do so with many others. She has fun with what she does, but still works as hard as she can, and she encourages everyone to do their absolute best. If I had the opportunity to go back to her class, I would. For all of these reasons, and more, I nominate Mrs. Smith for Educator of the Year
