The Root River

November 30, 2008

I thrust my paddle into the river
The roaring water rushes by my kayak.
It splashes me and dampens my clothes.
With power I pull the paddle backwards.
I feel the kayak surge forward at the end of my stroke.
Effortlessly I lift my paddle out of the water.
I am finally out of the torrents.
The water now has and eerie calm to it.
A light blue blanket covers the sky.
Jagged cliffs surround me
With skyscraper pines on top.
I realize how beautiful the world is
And how peaceful nature can be.
