the abusive scar
She stands in the middle of an aisle wearing a long black dress that passes her knees, her dark hair covering her right eye. She stares at a toy rhino as if it were real.
A homeless woman walking by stops and asks is she is okay. The young girl did not respond. The homeless women inches closer to the young girl trying not to startle her.
"Hello child. I will not harm you; I am a mother. My name is Anna."
The girl slowly turned her head to look. She had a black eye and a scar running from her upper cheek to her upper lip.
"I don't need help!" she yelled.
Anna ran for a store employee. When she saw a man with a name tag reading "Stephen," she pulled him back to the aisle. By the time they returned, the girl was gone and there was no toy rhino.
Anna insisted that Steve review the security cameras with her. When they saw the tape, Steve gasped: Anna was the girl.
Steve searched for a mirror to hand the woman. When she looked upon her reflection, she saw a black eye and a scar that went from her upper cheek to her upper lip. Steve tried to grab her before she ran but they were too late.
When he chased her out of the store, she was nowhere to be found, but on the asphalt of the parking lot lay a stuffed rhino.
This piece was written in my creative writing class my fellow classmates fell in love with how creepy it was but also with the plot twist that no one ever expected.
