The Grand Duke of the kingdom knocked on the front door. “Please, come in Duke,” said Cinderella’s evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine. The Grand Duke takes out a scroll and reads off what the king has ordered. “The King himself has ordered that every dame in the land try on the glass slipper. If the shoe fits, the lucky madam will marry the prince of the kingdom,” he sleepily yawned out. “Who are the ladies of this household,” questioned the Grand Duke. “My two daughters. Anastasia and Drizella,” replied Lady Tremaine. The two girls walked down the stars, noses high up in the air. When the Grand Duke saw the two girls, his nose shriveled up in disgust. “The king did say every dame. But these two… If it fits the prince will surely be disappointed,” the Grand Duke thought to himself.
When Drizella and Anastasia saw the glass slipper, they both squealed in delight. “That is my slipper,” cried Anastasia, “I didn’t think I would ever see it again!” “No wait that is my slipper. I swear on it. I know it will fit if you let me try it on,” argued Drizella. “Girls, girls you will both be able to try on the slipper,” scolded Lady Tremaine. First up to try on the slipper was Drizella. The servant walked up to her, carrying the slipper on a velvet pillow. He tried to put it on, but Drizella’s foot was massive compared to the delicate slipper. “Here, let me put it on,” Drizella demanded. As she was trying to force the slipper on her foot, Jaq and Gus were trying to get the key out of the stepmothers pocket. Drizella finally seemed to get the slipper on. But, a few seconds later it shot off of her foot like a rocket. Everyone was frantic to try to save the slipper from crashing to the ground. Jaq and Gus had gotten the key and were almost up the stairs. Now it was Anastasia’s turn. She pushed her way into the chair and sat down like she was the queen. “Now it’s my turn,” she snootily said, “but I get to put it on this time.” Anastasia took the gleaming glass slipper and easily slipped it on her foot. From every where in the room, gasps came from everyone’s mouth. Even Anastasia’s. “IT FITS,” Anastasia screamed with glee. “It fits,” came the questioning statement from the Grand Duke. “It truly does fit your grace,” smiled Lady Tremaine.
“Your Grace! Your Grace please wait,” called Cinderella, “The slipper should fit me! I would know because I have the other!” Cinderella reached into her side pocket and groped around to find the slipper. “Where did that silly thing go? I swear I just had it,” Cinderella questioningly muttered. “Miss,” said the Grand Duke, “The slipper already fits your sister. She is going to be transported to the castle to marry the Prince at once.” “What?!? I swear it was my slipper not, Anastasia’s,” cried Cinderella. “I’m sorry miss but my orders were to find the madan who fit into the slipper and once I found her to bring her immediately to the castle,” replied the Duke, “Let’s go on now Anastasia.” The Grand Duke left the shadowy mansion and took Anastasia with him. Later that day, she was going to be wed to the Prince. The one who Cinderella was desperately in love with. Drizella and Lady Tremaine called for a carriage to go to the castle. They departed, leaving only Cinderella. A couple of hours later, the church bells could be heard around the kingdom. Cinderella sat on the grand staircase, crying mercilessly. For her Prince, the one she loved, was now married to someone who wasn’t her. She was left with her thoughts, of if she would ever find love again…

The End

We had to choose a writing prompt in English and I chose this one about rewriting a fairytale to not have a happy ending. I really liked writing this short story.
