Supernatural
Supernatural Review
Generally I am a rather busy person but when I have my free time I enjoy spending it with my close friend Amayia. One Saturday evening or a very early Sunday morning, we found ourselves out of quiet things to do and beginning to fall asleep. In a last effort to keep our all-nighter going we turned on the television. At this time of night or early morning, nothing good was expected to be on. I don't remember which one of us recommended using Netflix but whoever it was I am eternally grateful. Every show we wanted to watch was missing the latest season which meant we needed to find something new. Nearing defeat I remembered something I had seen on the social media site called Tumbler. "SuperWhoLock" which stands for the three popular television programs, Supernatural, Doctor Who and Sherlock. Amayia and I had seen Doctor Who already and had no interest in Sherlock. That left one program, Supernatural. I offered my idea but could tell Amayia was pretty skeptical. She didn’t want to start a new fandom and based on the vast number of Tumbler posts raving about the show, I was positive we would get addicted. Oh boy was I right. After the first episode ended Amayia and I stared wide-eyed at each other. "Maybe just one more?" Amayia asked rather solemnly. From that moment on almost all of my free time was spent watching episode after episode. I watched it so much I got my father hooked on the show as well. Supernatural has brilliant characters, and a nauseatingly great story line.
The two main characters are brothers Sam and Dean Winchester played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. I hadn't seen these two actors in any other movie or show before and after Supernatural they became two of my most sought after. Most characters other than these two end up dying which with the present storyline is absolutely heart retching. It doesn't matter if the character is friend or foe, they scrip and relationships find a way into your heart. The backstory of the Winchesters is the worst of all. I'll try to refrain from any spoilers in case you're interested in watching. John Winchester married Mary Campbell and together had two sons Sam and Dean. When Sam was an infant, Azazel, or more commonly called "the yellow eyed demon that took mom", murdered Mary. Of course John felt he needed to avenge Mary's death so he devoted his life to killing Azazel. He began "the family business" which in reality simply meant hunting demons, spirits, evil beings, and so forth. In later seasons viewers will be introduced to family friend Bobby Singer as well as Castiel, the fallen angle.
Each episode begins with a recap of the last and ends with a tease for the next. I enjoy being surprised so typically I won't watch the teaser but the ones I have watched do their job well. They tease viewers horribly. Who died? Who's that guy? Is Dean going to live? It'll put your patience to the test. Questions will swim trough your mind answerless. Each episode is packed with suspense, action and heart ache. I question my sanity more now that I have before. You'll grow attached to every character and relationship, especially Dean and Sam. In my opinion their relationship is the greatest part of the show. It starts with John going on a "hunting trip" failing to return. Sam, who had left the family business to pursue his dream of attending college, is visited by his brother late one night. Dean nearly forces Sam to go with him. Sam is more independent and caring while Dean tries to follow his fathers footsteps and tends to be more of a "shoot first ask questions later" type of guy. As you'll realize more into the show, Dean only cares about the wellbeing of his little brother while Sam seems to be a bit less forgiving. Twists and turns in every episode. The deeper you watch into the seasons you'll find yourself unable to watch anything else. If you have a weak stomach I would recommend a trash can. It gets a bit gruesome but it only adds to the great perfection of this show.
Supernatural began on September 13th, 2005 on CW. They have completed 9 seasons and are nearing the 10 season goal which was set by the showrunner Jeremy Craver. If you haven't already watched Supernatural I recommend you start. If you're looking for a program with humor, violence, and a break from reality, this is the show for you. My point is Supernatural is an all around great show and it's definitely in my top three show list for sure. Just give it a try, watch a few episodes and feel yourself sink in to it's excellence. If it's not for you it's a real shame. You're missing out on a stupendous show.
