Only Yesterday
While the widely renowned Studio Ghibli film Only Yesterday has just made its appearance in the U.S. this year, its impact has left us in wonder of how we could live before viewing this film. This originally 1991 anime will leave you in a trance as you leave the theater, as it encaptures grace, beauty, and relativity. The film follows Taeko, a 27-year-old Japanese woman as she reminisces about her childhood, and the journey she takes in memory of it. The animations are clear, colorful, and sophisticated. Its elegance and attention to detail capture her story well, as we are emotionally taken on the journey with her. It’s a coming of age film that takes one through the ups and downs of life. This, is another must-see masterpiece from the acclaimed film studio.
