Billie Jo is a  normal country girl who lives in Oklahoma where the book takes place in 1925 to 1935. She lived with her mother, father and soon-to-be-born baby brother, then a terrible accident breaks out as the dust storms roll in .  The historical fiction book Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse, is a page turner when Billie Jo gets hit with a tragedy while having to face larger dust storms coming around the corner that may change her life. The story took a fast turn from a loving family of three with a baby on its way, to a family who is trying to put the pieces back together when tragedy strikes at the worst moment possible.

I personally highly recommend this book, it explains the dust storms so well it's almost like I am there with the character. Something that Hesse did was using a poetry format, it really makes it feel like you're with the character and it's really unique. Hesse worded the story so well I was on the edge of my seat waiting for more. Another thing that Hesse did well was telling the emotions of the characters, how they feel, what  makes them upset, what they plan on doing to fix this problem and why! I recommend this book to any ages.
