The Fault in Our Stars is not a typical cancer book. There is no poetic death and no foundation started in a character’s name. It tells the story of two teens who happen to have cancer that embark on a journey of everlasting love.

Meet Hazel, a sixteen year old girl who has thyroid cancer. She is forced to go to a support group and befriends the witty and handsome Augustus.

This book is so wonderful because the characters are so relatable and lovable. Augustus’ mind overflows with metaphors, yet he can also be extremely moody. Hazel is quirky, yet she falls into lapses of teen angst. The remarkability of this story is the love that develops between these two characters, which you know will last forever.

This book will make you cry, laugh, and even angry at times. But when examining your emotional reaction, you must always remember that “the fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves.
