This novel is the autobiography of Elie Wiesel, who survived years living in concentration camps. He was separated from his mothers and sisters, and eventually lost everything. The events he witnessed made him lose his faith in god as well. At one point Elie says, “Without faith, there ceased to be light. Each day merged into an eternal night.”

The author describes his experiences using powerful sensory details that allow you to imagine the extent of the tragedies he witnessed and lived through. Although I would recommend this book if you are interested in the Holocaust, I would advise against it if you are easily frightened because of the disturbing descriptions of the occurrences he witnessed.
