This book focuses around a character named Nailer, who has a terrible, dangerous existence, living on a beach, scavenging parts out of ships, and trying to live, with his violent, drug addicted father. After a massive storm, he sees a crashed ship, and is faced with an important decision, either saving the rich girl there, who can lead him to a better life, or scavenge the ship for a quick buck. The characters are realistic, these characters could exist. For example, the jobs of clearing out old oil tanker ships, already does exist, and it is just as dangerous as it is in the book, and causes such a poor existence, as is also in the book. This is a futuristic sci-fi world, with genetically modified men, and a ruined world, that is all too plausible. The pacing is also well done in this book, rotating between fast, and slow, as needed. If you are interested in a futuristic, realistic sci-fi action book, then this book would definitely be a good read.
