The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
In the Glass Castle, Jeanette Walls tells a series of unimaginable events that took place during her childhood. Her dad was a drunk and her mom had a free spirit and hadn’t grown up yet to have the responsibilities of raising children. It’s about an intelligent child believing in everything her parents did when they weren’t always there for her.
Jeanette Walls used a style that keeps the reader interested all the way through. She is very straight forward throughout the book but what she says is so unbelievable that your hands won’t be able to put the book down.
The idea of a memoir called “The Glass Castle” doesn’t catch everybody’s attention right away but once you’ve read the first chapter you won’t regret having opened it. The title was deceiving for me but has a much better story behind it.
The book is easy to imagine in your head and to put pictures to words. The living style of the family and the feelings of the children towards it will quickly be revealed in the beginning of the book. You will be wondering how Jeanette Walls turned out to be an award winning writer, but by the end of the book you’ll know from her self-will that she is a strong lady ready to take whatever journey life brings her.
Jeanette Walls wrote the Glass Castle to share her past and let the public know that she accepts what happened and is ready to move on from it. This book tells the story of how her life truly was and although she didn’t add ongoing details, the natural details are enough to make it exciting all the way through. “The Glass Castle” is a perfect book to make you feel grateful for what you have, no matter what it is.
