Every new school year everyone gets excited for Homecoming week. They pick out their dresses, groups, and where they’re going to eat. But when we get to homecoming week, we realize how much it sucks.

It is Monday morning of homecoming week, it is the comfy day– the best day. It is the best theme of the week. You’re excited because you can just go to school in your pajamas, and not even try to get ready in the morning.

After your great day at school, you look at the themes for the rest of the week: Superheroes and villains, class colors, pink out, and cowboys or bikers. You think what I going to wear for those. Homecoming weeks' spirit days should be more fun and something that people can actually find at home. For me, I did not wear any superhero or villain costume because it was embarrassing and because I did not have anything for it at home.

On Friday, the pep rally day, everyone gathers in the football bleachers. You can tell that no one wants to be there, but we have to because we are forced to. While most people sit in the bleachers, some students get to play games on the field. I find it really boring to just sit there and watch people play stupid yard games. Maybe we could find a way to shorten the classes more and make it so that a lot more people can play games, throughout the grades to make it where everyone is included.

It is finally Saturday, and you go to your friend's house to get ready. You go to your favorite spot to take pictures. Then finally to the best restaurant, but don’t want to eat too much where you feel like you are going to pop out of your dress. This part is the best part of homecoming because you get to eat and take beautiful pictures with your best friends. This is the only part of the week where it is not boring, and you are actually having fun.

This year, after dinner, my friends convinced me to go to the dance. We got there at 8:30 ( the last time you could get to the dance) and I already wanted to leave the second I walked in. The cheap and cringy decorations did not help.

We decided to go into the dance room. The music was not good. They were playing 2000’s music and no one was really getting hype like they should be. We stayed in there for a solid 10 minutes before we couldn’t take it anymore.

We were so bored we sat in the lunch room from 840-855.  Sitting on our phones because of how boring it was

When it was finally 8:55 we all went to the door. Of course, we couldn’t leave until 9 pm. My group and about 30 other people were lined up to get out of there. When the clock finally hit 9 pm everyone started to run to get to their car. The fact everyone was lined up to leave and running to their car doesn't tell you how bad the dance was, I don't know what will.

Overall, we need to change things about our homecoming week. We need to start off with better homecoming spirit days so that everyone has something they can wear. Additionally, we need to find better games and activities to do at the pep rally so not everyone wants to leave. The one thing I can say is good,  is hanging out with your friends while getting ready, taking pictures, and eating at your favorite restaurants. Lastly, we need to change homecoming- making it more fun, playing better music, and making it where people wouldn’t want to leave.

I did this piece for a final, so I had to write it quickly. We had to choose one of our quick writes that we did in the beginning of every class and expand on it. Compared to my first quick write, this one expanded and got a lot better.
