Sweet Diner Restaurant Review

This delicate restaurant first started in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward that serves American brunch and lunch classics in a vibrant, calming setting. The restaurant is fairly new, opening November 8, 2017, and they have been a hit. It brings attention by outsiders with modern decor of spiky gold-toned chandeliers, marble-look tables, and an open floor plan that makes the room feel brighter. The hours of operation are 7am-3pm Monday through Friday, and 7am-4pm Saturday through Sunday.

The menu offers various items and has everything from sweet to savory. Also, they offer special entreés each day that are hard to pass up. Along with these delicious meals, there are gluten-free and vegan options for people with dietary restrictions. There is no kids menu, but there are kid-friendly options. These include items like pancakes and french toast. Each item varies in price but is usually around $7-$12 and tops out at $17 with ham cut right off the bone.

When I arrived at the restaurant, my group was seated right away in a cozy spot in the corner. The host was friendly and made sure we had everything before the waiter got to us. The waiter came a few minutes later and filled our glasses with water while he told us about the specials they had that day. Throughout the rest of our meal, the waiter came multiple times and asked questions about our food, but never filled our glasses of water. There were various times that all of our waters would be empty and the waiter wouldn’t acknowledge it. He was awkward, but overall the experience was enjoyable.

I ordered off the sweet side of the menu because the Créme Brulée Style French Toast caught my eye. Trying this was out of my comfort zone, and I was hoping it wouldn’t be overwhelming with sweetness. To my surprise, it was the perfect pick for a brunch meal. The french toast was made with a crackled sugar crust and served with seasonal berries, warm maple syrup, whipped butter, and homemade whipped cream. This choice is excellent for people who enjoy a sweet breakfast.

The experience was delightful and I would go back. The environment was friendly and the food was fantastic. The room is sunny with the wide windows with fancy decor that makes it feel well put together. The atmosphere wasn’t loud, making it a great place to have conversations. I recommend Sweet Diner for people who are looking for a fancier place to go for brunch.
