Great Times at Road America
Road America is an amazing road race track located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. It’s home to fantastic elevation changes, challenging corners, multiple passing zones, and long, fast straights. There are countless spots around this over four mile track where you can see spectacular racing at breathtaking angles and views.
Coming to see a race in person is much better than on TV. In person, you get to feel the thrill and intenseness of racing that you can’t feel on TV. If you want to see the whole track, you might have to walk a ways to see all of the 14 corners. However, you can bring or rent a golf cart and cruise around all of the trails they have wrapping around the 640 acre property. Golf cart rentals are usually a couple hundred dollars, but is definitely worth the price.
Not only is there good racing, there is spectacular track food, clean bathroom facilities, many camping sites, a nearby small town, and super friendly helpful staff. The main building on the track that serves food is the Gearbox. The Gearbox serves spectacular breakfast, lunch, and dinner to keep you filled up while you’re at the track. Personally, I love their breakfast sandwiches. Especially when I’m hungry and get to the track early in the morning. Additionally Road America recently built several new bathroom facilities across the track so you don’t have to walk far to find a nice bathroom. If you want to stay the night on the track, there are many camping sites where you can stay right next to the track and not miss any racing. Right down the road from the track lays the small town of Elkhart Lake. This is a very neat, nostalgic place with small lakeside resorts, restaurants, and shops that are a must to stop by. These places will take you back in time with the atmosphere and comforting of the small town feeling. If you have any questions on the track feel free to ask any of the super friendly staff located all around the track. Whenever I have a question there or need directions, the staff is always outgoing and points me in the right direction.
This racetrack hosts multiple races a year including Indycar, NASCAR, IMSA, vintage, and sports bikes. Personally, I think the Indycar races are the best to watch due to their fast speeds, amazing cornering and passing ability, and the overall exciting race spectating experience. Road America is super family friendly as the races are usually weekend events in the summer that last the day. Adult ticket prices are usually less than eighty dollars and kids under 16 get in free. You can walk through the paddock with your kids, meet drivers, and watch the amazing way race teams prepare their cars. There is even a go-kart track and a zip-line if the kids get bored. If you plan on coming to Road America, bring walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, and most importantly be prepared to become a racing fan and leave flabbergasted.
