Cross Country Actually Exists
The writing titled “Cross Country Actually Exists,” written by Brooke B., talks about how no one notices this sport. Her writing left me feeling relieved that I’m not the only person who notices the same situation. I strongly agree with what Brooke said in her article. I run cross country, so I understand where she comes from when she wrote this. My team isn’t well recognized at my school. The only time cross country has been recognized is when my brother, Noah, won the state cross country meet. The whole team wasn’t recognized for making it to regionals, but the volleyball team was. Brooke stated, “Waking up at 6:00 in the morning to go run 10 miles probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I’m sure if the average person did this before school, they would boast to all their friends and sure enough the entire school would hear about it. So isn’t it ironic that the entire sport of cross country gets absolutely no attention at all?” I relate to this because many mornings I would wake up before school and run. I never complained. However, if a football player had to wake up at 8:00 am for a practice on a Saturday, he would complain. May I add, we would have started a cross country meet before football players even woke up probably. “We face off against Flower Mound High School every Saturday, but of course no one acknowledges that. Our hard work doesn’t get appreciated and administrators still wonder why our school spirit is so low,” said Brooke. I understand what she is talking about because no students ever came to our meets. Also, they wouldn’t come because we don’t have a home meet. Cross country definitely doesn’t get appreciated enough.
