Life and Sonnet
A death so cold, it chills the air;
An icy ruth that thrives within.
Amidst new life there is despair,
As one life ends, another begins.
In our infant’s childish face, I see my wife
With the sparkling hazel eyne she did possess.
Our daughter glows in a darkness of strife,
While peacefully now, my spouse doth rest.
Though I wallow in sorrow, awaken I must,
For as my child begins to grow,
She’ll resemble my true love, who watches us
From her heavenly perch in the sky, I know.
When it seems that newborn cries keep me awake
Worse is the silence that transcends, the constant heartache.
