Bubblegum Girls

Bubblegum girls sitting quiet in class
With their eyes trained on anything but work
Concealing complexions bright as stained glass
As some ignorant boys drive them berserk
Chewing and chewing their troubles away
To the ticking of our battered, old clock
It slowly beckons the end of the day
And the splitting of this masculine flock
The giggle, they grimace, they hide their hopes
Like how they hide from diminishing grades
Too long they’ve been at the end of their ropes
And now they are merely left with charades
People are more than numbers, scores, and ink
Saying they aren’t can push them to the brink
