Just Jump
Never in my life have I known such great fear,
Than at the edge of this dark precipice.
Behind my back, lush grass, drawing me near,
“Come here, my friend, come and await death’s kiss,
For though in the black lies glory and fame,
Treasures and joy saved solely for your hand,
Death too lurks, taking the healthy and lame
To devour those who walk on his land.”
The grass swears to me a blessed existence,
No anger or pain, but then I realize
Without sorrow, there can’t be happiness,
So I’ll face death, won’t give into the lies.
I dive down the dark, won’t be a captive,
Tomorrow I die, but today I live.
