In Flight
Freedom is a flock of caged doves let out
In a world of unshackled potential,
Where confined rivers meander in doubt,
And they meet the oceans providential.
We waited anxious for this day to come
When the cold chains break and we are unleashed,
Trammels of flight are gone and skies of gray
Turn blue in support of our great release.
On wings of an eagle we fly above
Liberated as Lady Liberty
Yet, the journey’s not over for this dove
Until I can be ultimately free,
When my time on this Earth is done at last,
I’ll see my Father’s face and be at rest.
