The road
She wandered through the damp grass.
solemn aspects of her life began to melt.
eyes wide open as she saw him pass.
Heartache she swore she never felt.
Cold skin darkened a bright memory.
Shining streetlights dimmed quietly to gray.
Whirlwinds made it hard to see.
Devoured moon lay rest to the day.
Distasteful faces enumerated the night,
while roaming children tried not to cry.
Halfhearted goodnights as they turned out the light.
Dust to dust, she regrets the try.
Yet tomorrow a smile might form again,
rounded fists and clenched teeth until then.
