"Ribbon"
As I walk down the long and winding road
Forever there, the footsteps in my wake.
They’re telling tales of past gone, not an ode
No waves can wash away so deep an ache.
How happy we were! You gave me a chill
We, fliers, were—now you’ve torn us apart
The ribbon on the tree reminds me still
To everyday hold dear you in my heart.
The beaming sun deserves to smile not
Find glory not in bombs bursting in air
Bright flashes, frightened screams, let it all rot
They pierce surer than that sword you now bear.
No longer can I live life being numb
Will ships on the horizon ever come?
