Dear Man

Dear man, who is known not but by a few,
Who never then rested on his laurels,
By a troubled heart, inked his quarrels.
On the pages splayed, some honor is due.
History agrees, its hands point to you.
The first humanist, using words oh-so-floral.
Did you know? Your words are immortal.
Beyond Shakespeare, your sonnets should be too.
But never did you grasp love’s hold, alas.
For sweet Laura was, before you, taken.
But that love never, despite death, did pass.
In grief, that love never would be shaken.
Though, dear man, I do not mean to be crass,
But, dear man, your Love will not awaken.

Marie, The Renaissance is a really wonderful topic in History and personally, I've published an article about it in the Monomousumi website...You can Google it and check it out...
Speaking of your sonnet, it is a wonderful dedication to Petrarch...And I read Petrarchan sonnets most of the time than Shakespearean Sonnets...They're so beautiful and different...Shakespearean sonnets are beautiful too though...👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

If you know anything about the renaissance or early humanism, you know Petrarch. His story is an interesting one, a doomed love story, and his poems are pointed to as some of the first humanist writings. Another interesting thing to note is that Petrarchan sonnets are different that Shakespearian sonnets in their rhyme scheme. (ABBA ABBA CD CD) You can see it here in this poem!
