Its nice to be important but more important to be nice,

Friendship isn't a highway
There are stop signs and speed-breakers
There've been arguments and petty fights
But this might be the deal-breaker
There's been tension for quite a while
I don't know how much more I can take
Every incident seems huge right now
Because our friendship is at stake
And I know you're upset
And I'm confused and irritating
And there are words that should be said
And we're hanging by a string
There are emotions bubbling
underneath the surface now
this seems to be a contest
but I don't think I want the crown
There's too much between us
This has been going on for too long
Not sure if I could say this all out loud
So here it is in a song
Do you hear that sound?
Am I just only feeling?
An earthquake's just taken place
And it's left me reeling.
It split the ground in two
You're on one end and I'm on the other
Once maybe the thought of distance
between us might've made us shudder
But that earthquake already happened
And there's an ocean of distance
Wait I don't know what happening
Aren't we still best friends?
I guess this is farewell
Here is my goodbye
I'm saying adieu
'Cuz this is the end

And here is my hello
My hey and hi
Nice to meet you,
Can I be your friend?

Things might have happened
Perhaps I am to blame
But that doesn't change
that I want to be your friend all the same
Let's move on and leave thing behind
that's where they belong
so here's my way to say
that it's a hello goodbye song

The author's comments:

This poem represents how imperfect friendship can be. Things don’t go perfectly. But you always have the chance to make it up to people and make it all okay rather than just hoping it will be okay.
We need friends. We just can’t survive without people to talk to and interact with. And sometimes friendships don’t go as planned (does life ever?) and we find ourselves desperately clinging onto a strand of hope and wishing it’ll all be okay.

Nikhita Makam is a high school student by day and programming poet by night. Her hobbies range from gardening to app developing. She is an ardent bookworm and a true pessimist at heart. You are most likely to find her drawing, reading or writing in her spare time. She tries her best to maintain a balance between all of her hobbies, school and the common dreaded enemy to all high school students- homework.
She is the author of "14 Works By a 14 Year Old" which has been described as-
"hard to believe that this is the debut work of a fourteen year old." - Metroreader
