"Aim above morality. Be not simply good, be good for something." -Henry David Thoreau

She’s seen more corpses than a gravedigger
Eyes glazed over, she fears no trigger
Her hardened heart feels no more sorrow
There is no reason to live to see tomorrow

She should have a lot to be thankful for
Some people couldn’t even complain anymore
But it all feels like nothing
To a girl who once had everything

She was the one in the brilliant red
It was better than being among the dead
The ones dressed in monotone grays
Wearing sullen expressions on stone-cold faces

She’s been spared that fate for one more day
But she took her color from another’s last fading rays
So young, his life already eclipsed
His last wish forever engraved on his lips

He had seen more corpses than a gravedigger
Eyes glazed over, he feared no trigger
His hardened heart felt naught but dismay
There was no reason to live to see today

He did it for her
So that she might stand among the ruins and ponder
In the heart of a city that has lost its breath
Why she shouldn’t join him in peaceful death
