Kentucky Summer
Hamburgers, hotdogs, & root beer floats,
Summer slips by on horses and boats.
Popsicles dripping on the windowsill,
Fishing all day for fresh bluegill.
This is my Kentucky summer,
My beautiful Kentucky summer.
Laughing and spitting watermelon seeds,
Resting in the shade of warm golden reeds.
Going on trips in pickups and cars,
Sleeping under a million stars.
This is my Kentucky summer,
My beautiful Kentucky summer.
Singing around a smoldering campfire,
Picking flowers through the barbed wire.
Fireworks exploding red white and blue,
Sighing oh how the days flew,
And I love it all best when I'm with you.

I actually wrote this piece after moving away from Kentucky, but to me, a Kentucky summer symbolizes any and all beautiful summers.
