Daddy's Girl
as I sit here alone and think about the days, you never picked up the phone.
as I sit here by myself and question how do I live with myself?
as I sit here and cry myself to sleep wondering why is this a dream.
as I sit here and wait for a visit to see your face.
as I sit here and wish for a goodnight kiss.
as I sit here and talk leaving out all the muck.
as I sit here alone thinking about all the days, I never picked up the phone!
as I stand here holding the things you gave to me.
as I stand here singing the songs you always sung to me.
as I stand here breathing the air that you breath.
as I stand here wondering how could it be.
as I stand here accepting the truth.
as I stand here wearing your shirt I brought home that belongs to you.
as I stand here not regretting a thing!
now that I know to always pick up the phone and brush my teeth
still waiting for a goodnight kiss on the cheek
waiting for you to sing that song that you always sing
waiting for you to help button up my sleeve
dad I won’t forget the last time that we saw each other
the last time that we fought with one another
you know you will always have the title that you have
he is just a substitute
you will always be my dad.
