Steps and Stages
Steps and Stages
By Jillian Parker
As a little kid you dreamt endlessly,
Imagining life with interminable possibility,
Picturing the day you could fly to the moon
Or sing like a rockstar to your own tune
Growing up without a care altogether,
Innocent as a feather
You discover the world as you become older,
Now you have responsibilities hanging on your shoulder,
Making mistakes, learning from the worst,
Striving for your dreams of becoming first
Growing up to become strong,
Working to achieve your biggest goals all along
You've lived many years and been through it all,
You've seen the world at its height and when it falls,
Now caring for all you have left
And holding on til your last breath
Growing up and reflecting back
At all you have accomplished in the past
Life is a wave that grows and crashes fast,
Stay with it and make time last

“What man calls civilization always results in deserts. Man is never on the square – he uses up the fat and greenery of the earth. Each generation wastes a little more of the future with greed and lust for riches.” -- Don Marquis
