Oh, summer star

I know you're far

But when i cry at night

I feel your gaze glint off my tears

And rock me back to sleep.

Summer's gone

And the dark deepens.

Your light slowly fades.

And new cries rip through the night.

As you dissipate.

I know, you'll be

back one day.

I know I'll wait till then.

But every night,

I'll miss your light.

And wait for that day,

When you will finally shine again.

The author's comments:

When I was about 10, I looked up and truly analyzed the stars. As my eyes fell on the brightest one and I knew, deep down, it was my grandfather. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to meet him. He passed when my mom was only 10 yet, everyone said I would have loved him.

That year, as the leaves started to change from green to brown, the commotion of the new school year distracted me from my star. And during the dead of winter I found myself searching a sky void of stars for him. I felt guilty for forgetting.

This year, I found myself reaching yet another empty sky for the star that dried my tears and when I found nothing I wrote a song to remind me of him. The slow lilting tune rocked me to sleep almost as well as his light. It also reminded me that not only will I see him in the next summer but, that he will be there anyway, even if I can't see him.
