What You've Become
We’re at the same party but you’re on the other side.
I just can’t forget you, though God knows I’ve tried.
You left your real friends for the b****** in here,
for drugs and guys, for cigarettes and beer.
And now you’ve become all that you hated,
as you slump by the bar, drunk and sedated.
You stash pills in your locker and sell them in school –
I guess that dealing is what you now find “cool.”
You’ll stumble back home when the night is done,
but I guess that this is just what you’ve become.
You spread rumors like wildfire, shove new kids down stairs,
spill Coke in the bag of anyone who’s caught unawares,
torment s*** list victims, shoulder-bump kids in halls.
As I watch, I feel like I’m boxed in by four walls.
And now you’ve become all that you hated,
and you don’t even see how you’ve become so jaded.
Your love’s been replaced by a steel cold heart,
and because of that, mine’s been ripped apart.
It’s killing me but I’m now growing numb,
‘cause I guess that this is just what you’ve become.
Still, I pray that one day you’ll see
the person you were and who you wanted to be.
The pain is eating away at me more than you know,
but I know that it’s time for me to let you go.
