Tears She Cries
Verse One:
She smiles at the people
Who pass her by
A star lighting up the dark
In their lives
But inside her is turmoil
Darkness, hate, and fear
And at the end of the day
She turns away
The mask falls down
The monsters beating her down
Come out to play
Chorus:
Inside the house
Behind closed curtains
Her secrets spill out
Like blood from a deep cut
Every night she lays in bed
Dreading the sunrise
Because when it comes up
The mask is back on
And she has to hide
The tears she cries
Verse Two:
Sometimes the mask shimmers
And they catch a glimpse
Of the mountain she’s trying to hide
But they turn the other way
Figuring she can fight it herself
But the truth is
The burdens of the sky
Are becoming too much for her to bear
Still the plastered smile
Hides the tears she cries
Chorus:
Inside the house
Behind closed curtains
Her secrets spill out
Like blood from a deep cut
Every night she lays in bed
Dreading the sunrise
Because when it comes up
The mask is back on
And she has to hide
The tears she cries
Break:
And the next day
When all hell breaks loose
They turn away
Say she’s crazy
But deep inside the kindest souls know
Had they asked
Had they tried to help
This would have never happened
She sees that they don’t care
So she races up the steps
Two at a time
Spilling her secrets
Like blood from a deep cut
For the last time
Modified Chorus:
Inside the house
Behind closed curtains
The ghost of her secrets
Lingers like a faded scar
Her bed is empty
No one dreads the sunrise
Because she’ll never have to wear the mask
Again
And the tears she cried
Will forever be forgotten
Coda:
Today the curtains are open
And there sits a candle
That will never be lit
Because they ignored
The tears she cried
