Senseless Battle
My, how the times have changed
Used to be the Christians had their Crusades
To invade and kill and profit in the name of God
But now it’s wrong for Muslims to think ‘Jihad.’
We say it’s barbaric and dangerous,
That God could never will us to hate so much,
And we ignore the echoes of the past
To pretend that the warnings will not last.
Don’t let differences cause hate and strife
Let us vie in righteousness and life.
Does it truly matter which one of us is right?
Yet we drag each other down into the darkest night.
Won’t you hear the plea for peace?
Let the senseless waste of life cease.
O most Holy City
Why do we bloody your streets?
The single place three faiths war to keep;
The Promised Land, the Wailing Wall,
The place where Christ was doomed to fall – and rise.
Sacred in its founding, yet hatred reigns
And the blood senselessly spilt forever stains.
Nearly three thousand dead in the space of an hour
Screams and tears and heartbreak as we watched the towers fall.
We were dazed and confused and lashed out in anger
Who then thought we were fighting the wrong danger?
We pulled through but the hate just grew and grew
Now who are we fighting? We take our anger of the few
Out on the many – what are we to do?
Don’t let differences cause hate and strife
Let us vie in righteousness and life.
Does it truly matter which one of us is right?
Yet we drag each other down into the darkest night.
Won’t you hear the plea for peace?
Let the senseless waste of life cease.
The bombs fall – what did we do wrong?
Children die – we just know a different God
Who says we have to follow you?
We are not your targets – don’t distrust us
Because of the actions of a few.
Don’t let differences cause hate and strife
Let us vie in righteousness and life.
Does it truly matter which one of us is right?
Yet we drag each other down into the darkest night.
Won’t you hear the plea for peace?
Let the senseless waste of life cease.
If you fight fire with fire, the violence escalates
The death toll climbs, and the hate remains.
No one will survive if we don’t stop to think
So lower your guns and step back from the brink.
Won’t you open up your mind and heart?
Won’t you take this olive branch so we can start again?
