Nothing matters more than those who depend on you, emotionally or physically. Even if the situation is life or death, you have to be there for them, because they need you.

I was young when she left
We dressed in black and cried
Little boys, always asking
"Why did Mamma have to die?"
Daddy said she had cancer
And as in a lot of pain
But before she left
She made a list of things...
-recited- She told Daddy

I want you to
Kiss the boys goodnight twice
Go find another wife
And don't be scared
To live and laugh and
Breathe without me
Tell the boys I love them
Even when they're fully grown
And no matter what you do
Always remember I love you

Well, I'm older now
Mamma's faded away
I barely remember her smile
It's so weird seeing kids around
With their moms on Mother's Day
Dad always says,
-recited- "Son, listen to this,
-recited- Your Mamma said to me in her list."

I want you to
Kiss the boys goodnight twice
Go find another wife
And don't be scared
To live and laugh and
Breathe without me
Tell the boys I love them
Even when they're fully grown
And no matter what you do
Always remember I love you

She had me take you diving
And adventures all your life
She looks down on you
With motherly pride
-recited- I should know, because

She wanted me to
Kiss you boys goodnight twice
She wanted me to be happy
With a brand new wife
And we've lived and laighed
Enough to overcome our fears
But no matter what we've done
And whatever what we're gonna do
We all know your Mamma
Loved both of you.

The author's comments:
I was reading the news (like the little geek I am) and I chanced upon an article about how a woman with a really aggressive cancer gave her husband a list of stuff to do with their kids. I thought it was really sweet, and I kept thinking about the article...and a song was born.
The woman had two sons, and I'm writing from the perspective of one of them. (I do write from guy's points of view sometimes.)
