"Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present." --Marcus Aurelius

And still I sit here, beg like ugly spills of blood
for virgin fingertips
We die in darker light, my breath is fading
glass upon your scars, we see
these dainty lives Reminiscent of greater times
The times we half want to forget, if it would maybe help us see a light
Remember I was right, you told me so
You said don't fight it, please don't go
And now the will to be someone is gone

Like a baby crying, or a "maybe" dying on the tip of your tongue
In the heat of a lovely sun we rose to meet it
and we let it beat us to the prize
And we painted our lives like that
Our lives like that

And I wanted to remember, let our minds dismember
October and December like the birthdays we forget were ours
and hope we're only fading like
a star we're staying out too late
just to hope we'll find something
or our light will reach the world before we burn out

So much paper I have wasted just to wander and to
wonder how it tasted, early summer, all but wasted on
the drug in my posession just a lonelier obsession, one of
minor consequence
saved for too-late innocence

And like a late-night lie into a dream I chose to buy
I'll find a bigger reason just to justify my treason
Like a baby crying, or a "maybe" dying on the tip of your tongue
In the heat of a lovely sun we rose to meet it
and we let it beat us to the prize
And we painted our lives like that
Our lives like that
