&quot;God is good.&quot;<br /> &quot;You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villian.&quot;

She died four days ago,
And Nick, he cried.
Cancer- the thief of our generation,
And she was all too young.
The funeral today,
And we, we all cried.
And when death comes out of time,
Or is it out of time at all?
Is there someone or something out there?
Does He control our lives?
Yes, she is with God today,
And the world, the world cried.
Her death like a smack in the face,
One more day, one more time,
Would it have made a difference?
He was the light in her eyes,
The light in cancer’s dark display,
And she the light for us all.
Nick’s mom died of cancer,
And Nick, he cried.

The author's comments:
On the surface this poem is about a child, named Nick, whose mom died of cancer, when he was 12. This is partly what the poem is about, but it is also the struggle of cancer that has taken so many lives already. It deals with the question that so many of us deal with in our day to day life: What happens to our loved ones when they die? It also asks the question: Does any death come too soon or does someone choose what happens in our lives? I wrote this poem while my little brother was at his best friend’s mom’s funeral. I hope that my poem gives us, and people going through this situation, hope to keep going.
