A Little Shy

I try to improve myself

But it’s hard to stay consistent

It’s hard to think outside the box

When you’re locked

In a mental prison

I’d love to speak my mind

If only someone would just listen

They tell me to speak up

And to raise my voice

So I open up my mouth

But it just won’t make any noise

“Just stop being so shy”

Man, I wish I had a choice

So they throw me against the wall

And say “Please come out of your shell”

But it’s hard when their normal speaking voice

Is louder than my yell

I’m a human just like them

But they treat me like I’m something else

They boast about how considerate they are

But not once have they considered how I felt

Every time they say that I’m just “a little shy”

The author's comments:

This one is about growing up shy, awkward, and lonely. It talks about how the little things that extroverted people repeat over and over again to people who tend to be more quiet and how it really affects them. I was known as the shy kid a lot growing up, so everything in this poem is from personal experience.

“Homework is like medicine.... If you take too much, it can kill you,”

This is relatable. @MrNowhere this reminds me of the poem Facade of Feelings
( TeenInk.com/poetry/free_verse/article/1131290/Facade-Of-Feelings )
I wrote it, and would appreciate if you would check it out and possibly comment some encouraging words
