"You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye." (Matthew 7:5) and "All the poeple who supported slavery were free, all the people who support abortion live..."

Friday thirteenth, that’s the date.
trying to avoid bad luck- it’s too late.
A black cat crosses your path,
a demon, an angry spirit, feel its wrath.
But there is a ray of hope in finding a horseshoe,
pointed at you.
Hang it on your door,
to bring good fortune to all but there’s more,
break a mirror and for seven years,
a series of unfortunate events, the beginning of your fears.
Open an umbrella inside,
knock on wood- you haven’t yet died.
Walk under a latter and make sure to place your thumb,
in-between your middle finger and index, don’t be dumb!
Cross your fingers and toss salt over your shoulder to turn it around,
an itchy right palm means money will be found.
So search for the four-leafed clover,
in a field a thousand times over,
because pulling out a grey hair will cause ten more to grow back,
but reverse your streak with a rabbit’s foot around your neck in a sack.

I thought it'd be cool to write a poem about different supersitions and how to counter-act them, tell me what you think!

Yeah, I added some new lines to this poem at one point and was having a hard time getting the flow back. Thank you for the thoughts though, I know it still needs work.

Although I do like it, especially some of the rhymesI agree with amy about how some lines seemed forced. I but I DON'T agree about the flow, I think that there are some spots that are very unnatural, Some lines, especially toward the end seem very drawn out. But there are lots of parts I like. The best part, I think, is "Walk under a [ladder] and make sure to place your thumb/ In between your middle and index, don't be dumb!" Although, I think they could have been broken in half to smaller lines, they would have been easier to read that way. It IS a neat idea, trying to get as many superstitions as you can in one poem (and who would dare leave out the antidotes? that'd be bad luck ;] ) Oh, and I almost forgot to say that I thought you started out strong. Do you always have more difficulty toward the end? A method that has always worked for me is writing the end or having a basic idea of the end, THEN writing the beginning. That way, you know where your going and you end with the same streanth and certainty that you had early on. If there are any weak spots at all, they will be in the middle and so would stand out less anyhow.

i love your phrasing, and the lines are so clever. i generally am not a huge fan of rhyming poems just because sometimes the rhyme seems a bit forced, but you've written each couplet in a way that makes the flow of the poem seem natural.
