A man sat alone
Always by himself, silence
Loneliness unquelled

Well done, you've incorporated one of the most devastating emotions that anyone can feel, but especially the elderly. At first glance, I saw loneliness and sadness, and then regret. In his youth, was he too shy to confess to the one he liked? Or did he lose his beloved ones in a tragedy? It really makes me wonder, about what happened to the old man for him to be all alone. This is an amazing haiku.
