Pole Vault: A Series of Haikus
I stare at the pit
I shift the pole in my hands
It’s time to fly
The short, graceful run
My spikes dig into red track
My pole starts to drop
I straighten my arms
I penetrate the pit’s box
I raise my right knee
The pole bends with me
I start to swing with my left leg
My body shoots up
Nothing can stop me
I can go over the sky
There is no limit
Maneuver the bar
Let go of the pole and fly
I can soar freely
