Well, you could of handed it in at school as a haiku, and then when he handed it back to you could of changed it to a normal length poem.

I know I should have but I wrote this during school and my teacher told me a huiku had to be short

I agree, you should of made it longer. You could of gone more in depth why they were keeping this secret from the world. Or you could of told us clues about this secret.
