Celebration
Buttery ribbons
Boxes under light bulbs shine
Golden and awake
Sheets of sweet frosting
A warm and velvet twilight
Candles exhale smoke
Perfect memory
One year blows past in a night
Disappeared like clouds

This poem is meant to be a snapshot of the quiet side of loud, happy gatherings. I remembered soft moments that old photos seemed to catch and started to see them in real time at other celebrations. Unnoticed beauty lay in the warmth of candles and the swift tick of a hallmark in a person's life. I thought a haiku was the best form for this poem because I wanted to focus mainly on the imagery associated with that feeling of personal, reflective, silent joy.
