The End of Every Year
Expectations high
To not be the best is to
Be letting them down
Fingers typing quick
Checking for the newest grades
Sighing in relief
A world of letters
I try to flee but find I’m
Bound to this belief
It starts out fine but
Everything then falls apart
My world is in flames
Handed one last chance
Picking up what still remains
Trying to get A’s
Hearing claps and cheers
Recognition for the grades
I end with each year
Expectations high
To not be the best is to
End the year in tears
