Spare Change
Rain drops
from the rusted gutter above,
land on the ripped, holey
t-shirt; a dress on the girl.
Perspiration drips
on the apple rounded cheeks,
the color of the milk chocolate truffles
sold in the store on the corner of the street.
Taupe, scratched boots that peel back like an orange,
whose laces seep in puddles beneath.
Each cobblestone like a person in a crowd,
lacquered in the mud of sin.

I hope readers will be able to view this girl through my imagery and feel immersed in the scene and put themselves in the observer's shoes and think about the lives of others who don't have as much and are still beautiful.
