I ain't scared of no rain
Thunder roaring among the dark clouds
From the south, heading northeast
Cars speeding home, trying to beat the storm
But I stand outside, eyes up, hopeful
Lightning flares across the steely sky
Brief bursts, followed by bone-rattling booms
Families rushing inside and bolting their doors
But I run towards the flashes, eager
A surge of wet wind, then the sky breaks
Fat warm droplets streaming down
Animals duck inside their nests and burrows
But I dance with delight as it pours and pours
The scent of damp soil, the taste of moist air on my tongue
I spin around, barefoot and bare-shouldered, letting the drops kiss my skin
As everyone else is shuttered indoors, afraid,
I am at home under the gray sky, in the comforting rain
