The Trial of Life
I can’t say,
What life has weathered me into.
I came into this world,
With a weight upon my shoulders.
The weight of my skin.
The weight of my gender.
The weight of my mind.
And the weight of my heart.
I couldn’t whisper the opportunities I’m given,
Because there are none.
Opportunity is made.
I have to snatch them as they come.
Life waits for no one.
So I get on board,
Or get left behind.
The inevitabilities of life: Death and Change.
Sometimes we’ve got to get ahead,
To be worth anything,
To the weight of the world.
