My Ray of Sunshine
The clouds were hanging above me
Massive and menacing over my head
He had left them when he left me
They blocked the happiness from my sky
I was ready to accept them
To give in and let them rain on me
To release the storms and drown me
I had said goodbye to the sun
The light I was sure I would never see again…
But
You
Breached the darkness
Reached through and peeled apart the clouds
My ray of sunshine was dim at first
I hardly noticed the glow
But then slowly you flooded through
Pouring streams of light from the break
As your words fell upon my face
And soaked through my skin to my heart
And the warmth…
I could feel it again…
This fluttering of my heart
The flush rushing to my cheeks
This smile…
Where did the clouds go?
I look up expecting the darkness, clouds, rain
Expecting the sharp droplets of pain
But
You
Are what I see
What I feel
My ray of sunshine…
