The Quiet of the Lake at Night
In silence, I stood,
Admiring the lake in the still of darkness.
The light of the moon shining
Upon the dark, blue water,
Reflection distorted by
Small ripples on the surface.
Waves graze the banks,
Lapping, producing the lone sound in the quiet night.
I step into the water,
Feet impacting the cold, smooth stones
Covering the lake bed floor.
The current flows around my toes,
Against my ankles,
Attempting to draw me out into the open water.
I close my eyes,
Listening merely to the tranquility of nature.
