Where I'm From MAG
I am from a court,
from bouncing balls and broken belief.
I am from the falling rain crashing
onto the pavement.
I am from a mountain,
looking up and growing.
I’m from Mom’s shoulders,
as she carries me through life.
From her grilled cheeses and helping me
with homework.
I’m from laughter
and jokes.
I’m from family I chose.
I am from a week of broken bones.
A week where my sister, brother, and I had injuries.
I am from nicknames:
Snowflake, Jake the Snake, and Wint?
I am from the Marquette games.
I am from the a pumpkin
as the weight crushes me.
I’m from lectures,
trying to fall asleep, playing Madden on my phone.
I’m from the analysts
screaming on ESPN.
I’m from my heart
because I know what’s right and wrong.
From the Golden Rule and sharing,
from not trying drugs and not fighting.
I am from a time
where there were no responsibilities.
I am from the snow,
nipping at noses and cheeks.
I am from the fear of what’s next
and what my future has in store.
I am from love
and the care that follows.
From the brownies and cookies Mom makes
and the appreciation she deserves.
In my room I have my baby blanket
bringing memories,
as if they just happened.
I am from these memories.
I am from a court.
