"The caterpillar thought it was over, then she emerged a beautiful butterfly."

The wind blows slowly
Caressing my cheek as I duck to avoid the world’s watching eyes
A smile pulls at my lips as I look at the slowly drying grass
So many memories flood my aging mind
I tuck a light curl behind my ear with a giggle from years ago
I remember a time when I believed in fairies
I was so small and young
Carefree and happy
I look up now
To the sun glowing up above
White wisps float through the sky
Providing a cool in the summer heat
I spin around
My loose dress flowing around me
I breathe in the air
It smells sweet
Like lilac and roses
Somewhere nearby
I hear the squeal of children
And I am transported back in time
I am in this exact spot
Laying in the bright green grass
In my Sunday dress
The clouds up above invite me to see shapes in them
I hear my mother calling me
‘it’s time to go’
She says
I skip to her
The loose fabric moving with each bounding step
Then off I go
Into the world
Into things that I don’t quite know
But I dream to.

I hope that people will get memories of their own childhood from this because that is what I used to fuel this.  Remembering your past is very powerful and the girl in the poem was doing just that and it reminded her of the beauty of the world she had long since forgotten.  I hope people will get a sense of needing to slow down and pay attention to the world around them from this.
