January
Blankets of snow coat Evergreen trees,
as gusts of snow travel over icy roads.
A fawn jumps peacefully through the snow.
Vanished leaves remain absent.

February
Winter drags on through this short month.
Snow appears bright and sparkling in the beaming sun,
as a squirrel scurries for an acorn.
Trees remain eager for warmer weather and leaves.

March
Ice turns to a mush of dirty packing snow.
Cool wind picks up to dry the Earth,
“In like a lamb, out like a lion.”
Melted snow reveals a crumbled dead leaf from last fall.

April
Heavy blue clouds hang in the sky on the brink of dropping water.
Snow evaporates and ponds are free of ice.
Birds chirp songs every morning across backyards.
Itsy green buds pop onto branches.

May
Air warms to the feeling of summer.
Plants and flowers spring from the ground,
and little light blue eggs sit in a bird nest guarded by mother.
Green buds bloom into bright magenta flowers and leaves.

June
Everything blooms, bright and colorful.
The longest day of the year passes.
A dog runs, panting with ears flapping back in the wind.
Leaves love the warm weather and rainfalls.

July
Corn grows in farm fields.
A hot air balloon hangs with the few clouds in the sky,
as fish dart below in the reflection of a shallow murky pond.
Trees full and healthy, coat in bright green leaves.

August
Dry air and a scorching sun, sting
red hot skin in the heat,
A bumble bee buzzes by a beautiful butterfly.
The leaves hang on tight, for this is the last month of summer.

September
Ripe apples sit ready to be picked,
and weather varies from hot to cool.
A mysterious owl hoots from a tree nearby.
The first leaf detaches from a branch and slowly sways hanging in the breeze.

October
Fields of vibrant orange pumpkins perch, ready for Halloween,
Crunching leaves under shoes as we hike near a lake.
A stray black cat’s yellow eyes glow in the night.
Leaves change from greens to oranges, reds, and yellows, filling the world with warmth.

November
Clouds turn grey. The Earth seems upset,
until the first snowfall brightens the dead.
Turkeys and cranes cluster on the sides of roads.
The last leaf sways to the ground and joins the rest leaving the trees bare.

December
Piles of snow dunes drift through the land.
The dark sky sneaks up earlier and earlier everyday.
Racoon tracks travel across fields and backyards.
The trees miss leaves, but in a couple months they will visit again...just like every year.
