Waiting at Wilson's Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor
Cars flood the street, we find a parking spot and walk blocks to Wilson’s.
As we round the corner, red and clean white stripes pop out at me.
Mom leads my family inside, we squeeze past anxious crowds.
20 minutes until we are seated…
We wait at Wilson’s.
My sister and I sit on the white porch and listen.
We listen to old music from the Beach Boys and Elvis, only classic music played here.
The music pauses and we listen, “Shipshock for four!”
15 minutes until we order…
We wait at Wislon’s.
A glance over the menu and I know exactly what I want:
chicken tender meal, with fries, a soda, and ice cream.
An aroma of burgers and hot dogs fills the air.
10 minutes until we are served…
We wait at Wilson’s.
Finally, the waitress carries a tray of food, four baskets of fast food meals.
Crispy chicken tenders and salty french fries tempt my watering mouth.
Our eyes enlarge as baskets of greasy food are placed in front of us.
Five minutes until our food is gone…
No more waiting at Wilson’s.
Some food is left behind. We are as full as we are after Thanksgiving.
We talk, share stories and memories, laughing until we can’t breath.
Rosy red cheeks and crescent moon smiles surround me.
The bill is payed and now for icecream. Five minutes until I decide what flavor...
We wait at Wilson’s.
Creamy blue moon ice cream and colorful cookie dough sits atop a sweet sugar cone.
My family aligns, with ice cream in our hands, in front of our favorite Door County memory.
We smile and a flash captures another vacation.
Our family will be back in only a matter of time for delicious food and memories...
Now, we wait one more year until Wilson’s.
